I checked the room rate at the Carefree Resort & Villas in mid-October for a "premier resort view room." Including the $20 "resort fee" and 14.2 percent tax, the daily rate worked out to $247.27. Although the fine print under "general terms and conditions" stated, "There is a taxable $20 Daily Hotel Service Charge (per day/per room) applied to your account," the resort fee was not taxed in the itemized total reservation charge. Is the town missing out on some badly-needed revenue? Wait, I forgot. Carefree has its own way of doing things. Never mind.

Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Park is considering running for governor. Is Carefree Mayor David "toad prince" Schwan considering resigning as mayor?

You can thank our temporary Governor for allowing another homeowner(s) tax to start immediately. The State Property Tax will now go into effect and the money will go to Arizona Schools. Plus, the Cave Creek and Paradise Valley School Districts want more with another override. They want more and more. Enough already!

The paper won their suit decisively against 'the deadbeats' and Carefree may finally be rid of litigation-happy Peloquin? Now the hard part: How to collect from 'the deadbeats'?

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Ronald Reagan? Now we have Barack Hussein Obama? Not only should his name not be included in the same sentence with our previous Presidents, ALL of whom loved and honored this country, its people and its history, and he isn’t qualified to carry their jockstraps. Obama? This guy is a mistake of what can only be called monumental biblical proportions. That’s my opinion and thankfully the opinion of a growing amount of Americans with each passing day.

Francisco d'Anconia's remark in Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged": "When you see that in order to produce you must obtain permission from men who produce nothing ... and your laws don't protect you against them but protect them against you ... you may know that your society is doomed."

I want you to know that Sonoran News’ detailed coverage has convinced me to do three things: I will vote for Walmart, I won’t vote for the override nor will I ever move out of our lovely town.

I enjoyed My View in the Sept. 30 edition. Your opinion on the Rust’s sign is right on and I am delighted the sign is up again in all its glory! Taste of Cave Creek was a delight too and the food was grand. However CCUSDs invitation to a food event was way out of step and angers us. I will get even by advising everyone to vote their greedy override down.

Larry Gardner’s letter was a sleeper. After the beginning, saying Sonoran News was too rough on Obama, he went on to credit him with gun and ammo sales. Too creative and I hope everyone caught the sarcasm.

Now that I can carry my gun into bars I can’t drink there. Whose stupid idea was that? If that new law is supposed to represent our second amendment rights it tramples the law. I want to protect myself and family and I thought I had that right. Right, except where I go eat and have a drink with dinner. Mine is on my ankle. Try and find it unless I use it, in which case I’m at least not a victim.

Thanks to all the photographers that share their wildlife pictures with us. The Harris Hawk and sleeping Bobcat on your front page were adorable. I asked my husband if we could move where we aren’t in a walled community so we can experience wildlife first hand and he said get a better job. I’m trying.

Just curious ... I am neither for nor against the Walmart in Cave Creek. There are positive and negative issues with it. Why are there only support articles in the editorials? Are there only support letters sent to you or are you not printing the anti-Walmart letters?

Carefree Mayor David Schwan has announced a special town council meeting for Oct. 20. But the public will have to wait until Oct. 16 to learn the agenda. No doubt it is too much to hope for that he will resign from council.

After having been caught holding an illegal town council meeting on Sept. 9 in violation of a town ordinance, Mayor David Schwan is proposing to amend the town code to permit changing meeting dates to "or as approved by council." He also wants to move regular meetings to 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, an even more inconvenient date than currently. It appears his ultimate goal is council meetings that no member of the public attends.

The only excuse Mayor Schwan can have for changing the date of monthly Carefree town council meetings to Wednesday from Tuesday is to make it a week later before Sonoran News can report his antics. I am waiting for the mayor to change meetings to a one-time annual event, perhaps midnight Dec. 31.
