Motorcycle poker run to benefit cancer patients

SCOTTSDALE – Motorcycle enthusiasts can help cancer patients and win prizes Oct. 17 during the Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Poker Run, a 200-mile scenic ride around Saguaro Lake, Scottsdale and the East Valley.

Proceeds from the poker run benefit the Gift of Life Lodging Program for cancer patients traveling to receive treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center.

The Poker Run begins at 8 a.m. at Casino Arizona, McKellips and Loop 101, with registration from 7 – 9 a.m. Participants will collect a playing card at each of five stops along a predetermined route. The best poker hand wins a big-screen television.

The event concludes back at Casino Arizona, where winners of the television, a cash prize and raffle items will be announced from 2:30 – 4 p.m. Winners do not need to be present to win.

Individuals can support the Gift of Life Lodging Program without participating in the ride. To make a donation, stop by Casino Arizona on Oct. 17 from 7 a.m.–4 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase from 2 –4 p.m., along with face painting and clowns for children.

Team W.I.S.H. Arizona to host Annual Walk

ANTHEM – October is “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and this Oct. 3, Team W.I.S.H. (Walking In Spirit and Hope) Arizona will once again partner with the Ironwood Golf Course at Anthem Golf and Country Club for their annual breast cancer walk.

It’s an extraordinary event that includes free t-shirts to the first 200 registrants and a continental breakfast provided by the Ironwood Grill. Pre-registration is a great idea.
Team W.I.S.H. Arizona will be participating for the sixth time in the 2009 AZ 3-Day 60-Mile Breast Cancer Walk Nov. 13-15. Since its inception in 2004, Team W.I.S.H. Arizona has raised over $800,000 for the 3-Day benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust.

Pink Light District VIP Lighting Ceremony

SCOTTSDALE – The Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), an Arizona breast cancer non-profit, will be holding their 3rd annual Pink Light District Lighting Ceremony at Olive & Ivy on the evening of Oct. 1. Corporate and Individual Sponsors will witness the "flipping of the switch" to illuminate thousands of Pink Honor Lights.

AIBH has brought back the unique Pink Light District initiative, where individuals can pay tribute to someone touched by breast cancer by sponsoring a pink light bulb that will be placed on the Canal Bridge that links the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Mix District in downtown Scottsdale.

AIBH supporters can go online now through Oct. 31 at www.ThePinkLightDistrict.org to sponsor a Pink Honor Light for $25 in honor or in memory of someone touched by breast cancer! Sponsors and donors at all levels of giving receive a tax receipt letter as the donation is 100 percent tax deductible.
