In your recent editorial (July 29-Aug. 4), you stated you believed those seeking signatures at Carefree Town Hall were the only people to be asked to leave the premises while collecting signatures. In 1995-96, a small group of Carefree citizens attempted to stop a zoning change on the NW corner of Cave Creek Road and Carefree Hwy. As part of our effort, we launched a referendum requiring signatures from residents to put forth a town vote. I attempted to obtain signatures at the Carefree Town Hall/Post Office complex and was told I could not remain there. I protested this was public property. I was told it was not. The property manager and town officials told me the town leased the building and, as private property, could not to be used to seek referendum signatures. I went into the parking lot for a time, which was ineffective. We ultimately obtained the required signatures, held a vote, but the effort failed, as is clearly evident today. So, the experience of being asked to vacate town hall for referendum signatures is not one unique to those individuals cited in your paper.
Why is it the women folk in Cave Creek and Carefree are such trouble makers ala Grace Meeth, the 'Town Snoop' and now Hitchon? There is a theory that they have way too much free time, zero common sense as in dingbat and absentee husbands?
WARNING!! Beware of Council-woman Vanik if you are an elderly woman, seeking to exercise your political right to sign the recall petition. She will publicly harass and humiliate you.
Mayor David Schwan has been quoted as saying his recall is preventing him from concentrating on his council duties. I wonder if he can walk and chew gum simultaneously?
With readers complaining Carefree Council members look like cartoon characters, I suppose you yourself look like Brad Pitt. Why don’t you step up and do some community service?
Ed note: Because I already do community service as Publisher of Sonoran News.
Oh we had another serious accident at Carefree Highway. I wonder if they’re going to put yet another south lane in. I wonder whether the hillbillies in Desert Hills are going to learn to stop when they reach Carefree Highway. They drive like crap.
Mr. Obama has made so many serious mistakes lately that he is a dead duck for reelection.
Victoria, Texas is a town about 80 miles west of Houston. Local Hispanic leaders there, in opposition to pending Immigration Legislation, boycotted all Caucasian owned businesses last month as a demonstration of their economic impact on the community. The boycott was declared a success by the Hispanic community, noting revenue in Caucasian owned businesses was down by 19 percent. Business owners declared the boycott a success as well, pointing out that shoplifting was reduced by 77 percent, money orders sent out of the country were down by 97 percent, and the cost of daily clean-up and trash collection was down by 84 percent. Shoppers reported they could actually hear English being spoken throughout the community for the first time in recent memory, and customers paid for purchases with real money, not government debit cards or food stamps!
Rather than focus on the apparently impossible task of showing Mayor David Schwan is qualified and deserves to be Carefree's chief executive officer, the mayor and his supporters are instead placing as many obstacles to his recall as is possible.
I see Gary Hayward once again made an ass of himself by ranting at Bob Coady. The man is certifiable. His wife should have him committed. Scratch that, she's as uninformed as he is.
You know, Schwan reminds me of "The Penguin" in the Batman movies. Not only does he waddle, he pretends to be good when he is really evil through and through.
If you are aware the "Healthcare Reform" is a piece of garbage contact your Congressman and Senators, tell them how you feel, and that IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, ANYONE WHO VOTES FOR THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE WILL NOT GET YOUR VOTE IN THE NEXT ELECTION. The following address lists the e-mail addresses for every member of congress and the Senate: www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm.
It was a relief to see that at least one Hayward is capable of reasonably clear thought. After the mister finished taking his predictable shots at your paper, followed later by that Hitchon woman doing more of the same, the missus addressed the council regarding the purchased of the 8 Sundial Circle building. She sensibly pointed out that there were too many lawyers involved (3 law firms and about $30K) and no real estate agent protecting the interests of Carefree. The town even paid a broker's fee to the seller, well hidden in the selling price.
The next time anyone is cut short while addressing Carefree's council, just remind the mayor that he must give every speaker the same courtesy and time, even if they are not Kiwanis members in good standing.
As I recall, in My View you labeled Glenn Miller a thug in prior election picks, an insightful observation.
I wish the people criticizing the firing of the Carefree gardener would get over it. The town is in deep financial trouble and should have fired a few more people. Besides, the town wanted to fire her anyway for work performance reasons, but the mayor didn't have the management skill set to address the issue. He decided to embarrass the woman in public and tried to setup the entire council to take the heat – whadda guy.
