Trenk declared winner by luck and ‘by lot’
Adam Trenk (center) was declared the winner of the final council seat on Monday via the “by-lot” process utilizing the cutting of a deck of cards, after a recount of the May 19 election results left Trenk and former Councilman Thomas McGuire (l) tied at 660 votes apiece. Trenk cut the king of diamonds beating the six of hearts cut by McGuire. Town Magistrate George Preston presided over the “by lot” tie-breaker process, while Town Clerk Carrie Dyrek explained the rules and recorded the results.

Stavoe floats plan for Economic Security group

CAREFREE – Town Councilman Doug Stavoe’s proposal to establish an Economic Security & Marketing Committee quickly turned into an argument about the viability of the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce at a Tuesday town council budget workshop.

Advisory commission delays recommendation

SCOTTSDALE – The Airport Advisory Commission has heard enough concerns from citizens to postpone its recommendation to the Scottsdale City Council, providing time for more public input on allowing heavier airplanes to land.

These three bobcat cubs were photographed Saturday frolicking on artificial grass in a Terravita backyard. They returned Sunday and Monday, obviously enjoying the experience. The resident indoor cat, however, was not happy during their visits.

CAREFREE – At a Tuesday budget workshop town council decided to layoff one employee and make good on a pledge to contribute $16,667 to the new Desert Foothills YMCA, which will open this fall.
