Lorry Kreinheder

Nov. 5, 1925 – Jan. 19, 2009

Lorene “Lorry” was born to Victoria Reed DiBello and Gaston DiBello on Nov. 5, 1925, in Buffalo, New York. Her life ended peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on Jan. 19, 2009, at home in Carefree at the age of 83. At age 18, Lorry earned her pilot’s license, landing her a job as a flight attendant with Continental Airlines. On Aug. 27, 1945, Lorry became a heroine when she safely evacuated all the passengers and crew aboard a Lockheed 18 Lodestar, that crash landed at the Albuquerque Municipal Airport, just before the plane blew up. Lorry married childhood friend Millard R. “Mike” Kreinheder on Aug. 14, 1948. They had three children: Robert Kreinheder, Snowmass, Colo., Rodney Reed Kreinheder, Buffalo, New York, and Kari Swainston, Layton, Utah. There are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In 1990 Lorry and Mike sold Country Manor Drexel Heritage Galleries, a business they owned for 31 years in New York State, and retired to the Boulders in Carefree. Lorry was an expert downhill skier, an avid horsebackrider and a competitive bridge player. Lorry and Mike raced sail boats, water-skied, golfed, and traveled the world. Lorry was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all. There will be a celebration of Lorry’s life at the Boulders Club on Friday, February 20, 2009. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Lorry’s name to your favorite charity.
