“Eyes on the prize!”

Head Girls Coach Jeff Vittorio’s Soccer Lasses have the same focus as Head Boys Coach Mat Evans’ Soccer Lads: winning the State Championships that disappointingly eluded them in 2008. But first, soccer fans, circle your sports calendars for Thursday afternoon/evening, Jan. 29, when both Soccer Falcons will host Chaparral, likely for the Desert Sky titles, which Cactus Shadows won (on the Chappies’ turf) last January. Keep in mind that Chaparral moves up to 5A-Division II athletic competition in 2009-2010. Falcon Hoops Take Roller Coaster Ride

By Pete Mohr | January 14, 2009

The week of January 5 was a roller coaster ride for Falcon Basketball. After the ‘high’ of winning Centennial’s Coyote Classic, Dec. 27-30, the Lady Falcons plummeted (at home, January 6) to a crucial 45-46 loss to Amy Patton’s (32 points) McClintock. Fightin’ mad (at themselves), the LadyBirds (again at home, January 9) took it out on the Saguaro Lady Sabercats, 71-34. They’ll face tough duty in their rematch with the Lady Chargers (at McClintock), Friday, Jan. 30, likely to be for all the (Desert Sky) “marbles.” Boys took to the road. Led by senior David Byrne’s 22 points, the ‘Birds came back (and ‘up’) in the 4th period to beat “Mac,” 59-51. ‘Down’ at Saguaro, January 9, the Falcs had the dubious distinction of getting “skunked” in the 1st period (talkin’ zero points!). They never recovered. Final: Sabercats, 60 - Falcons, 42. Tri-Captain Andrew Stauth’s 14 led CSHS. Gals and Guys played for important home wins in Tuesday, Jan. 10’s ‘doubleheader’ against visiting Shadow Mountain. Please see Front-Page Sidebar for results. Many thanks to the ‘anonymous’ Boys Basketball parent for his McClintock and Saguaro summaries.
