Now that all the grandkids have infiltrated the ice cream establishments on Coffee Row, they want ice cream to have equal treatment with coffee. Therefore, we at The CUP support freedom of the press and encourage these budding journalists to express themselves in writing. Their research projects will be published in The CUP. Please enjoy their unedited insights into the world of Ice Cream.
Their comparative analyses and decision making skills are honed by this yummy activity. Our first kid article is by 11 year-old fifth grader, Jordan.
“So my grandpa and his friend Don usually go to and write about coffee shops, but today I am writing about ice cream instead because they asked/bribed me. I am an 11 year old trying to collect $20 for a video game called FC 25, a soccer fantasy game. For example, you can have Messi on your team, and the other team can also have Messi. So today I am going to write about five different ice cream shops as well as a frozen yogurt shop. These include Cold Stone, Cherry on Top,The City Creamery, Dairy Queen, and finally Handels.
1: Cold Stone. Cold Stone is a place in Desert Ridge that is closest to where I live in Carefree, Arizona. I used to go there all the time when I lived near it , but ever since I moved I don’t go there close to as much as I used to. But this place is too good. When I was 3-8 years old, I got cotton candy with gummy bears as a topping . This sounds like a little kid right. But now that I am older, I get the founder’s favorite or the “chocolate devotion”. The chocolate devotion has brownie bits, little reeses cups inside and Oreos with chocolate ice cream. The founder’s favorite also has vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. I’m not gonna sit here and lie to you like I know the rest because I don’t. This is easily my favorite ice cream place to go to.
2: Cherry on Top. I am not sure if you count this as ice cream because it literally says on the sign frozen yogurt, but it feels kind of obvious that it is just ice cream. This is one of the go to spots when me, my cousin Dylan and my grandpa go get ice cream. So when you walk in and look close to the restrooms you will find a 16 oz cup and a 20 oz cup. I go with the 16 oz one because I am lactose free, which makes eating ice cream a challenge. Anyway they have two different options in six different slots to mix and match . I personally do cake batter with something else I forget and chocolate with vanilla and caramel with two servings of M&M’s.
3: Dairy Queen, this place has a wide selection of ice cream. But here they call it a “Blizzard “ and I like 95% of their options. I love their cotton candy and I know I just said that it is kind of a little kid thing but is so good. I also love their choco brownie extreme. It has brownie bites, oreo chunks, chocolate ice cream and cake batter ice cream kinda like cold stone. Guess I like a lot of the same things.
4: The City Creamery This place has the BEST ice cream in town. It is a homemade little place near el encanto. I usually just get the cookies and cream. Sounds kind of simple, well it might be but holy moley, it is GOOOOOOOD. It is a nice little place but you know what they say, great things come in small packages
5: Handels it has been popping but I have not loved it. It is good though i get ethier sticky fingers or cheesecake made with oreo. Cheesecake made with oreo is exactly how it sounds. Cheesecake ice cream with oreos doesn’t sound like the best combo but it is really good. Sticky fingers is peanut butter ice cream with Reese’s cup bites and this place is the place where you need to try it.”
“So now that you have heard me talk about my opinions on these five ice cream shops and you are a kid like me, I want you to try all of these ice cream places and leave me a opinion on each. Contact me, Jordan, at The CUP, [email protected] “Easy money Grandpa!”
