Veteran will receive customized motorcycle as part of Combat Hero Bike Build Unveil
United States Marine Sergeant patriot and outdoorsman Jordan Maynard stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) in 2011 while searching for them on the job in Afghanistan. As a result, he lost his legs, among other injuries, changing his life forever.
However, on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2 PM, his fellow veterans will honor Maynard’s military service by making him the recipient of a motorcycle customized for his use. The exciting tribute will take place at American Legion Post 34, which is located at 6272 E. Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek, Ariz. The Post’s American Legion Riders will showcase the event.

During the spring Combat Hero Bike Build Unveil at Post 34, the Arizonan will be presented with a motorcycle, custom built by his brothers-in-arms.
“It’s an honor for American Legion Post 34 to be the home of the 2025 Combat Hero Bike Build Unveil,” says Mike Matney, Post 34 ALR 2nd vice. “We look forward to meeting this year’s hero recipient, Jordan Maynard, and his family.”
Maynard became a Marine in 2007 and deployed multiple times to Afghanistan, serving as a mortar squad leader and conducting more than 100 patrols with multiple joint task forces. It was during his second deployment to Afghanistan, during an assignment with his team to provide security to a patrol base and clear the compound of IEDs, that Maynard stepped on an IED.
Though Maynard lost both legs and suffered a compound fracture of his elbow, thoughts of his son Jay inspired him to stay calm as he remained conscious to direct the Marines. While Maynard was medevaced off the scene, his heart stopped multiple times, forcing the medics to manually pump his heart by hand until they landed at medical facilities in Afghanistan.
Maynard and his son were reunited at Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital in Bethesda, MD and later transferred to Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego to be closer to family. There, he met June, who became his case manager at Semper Fi & America’s Fund, which has helped him recover and be able to enjoy life to the fullest. He now is living every day to the fullest alongside his wonderful family.
During the April 5 bike build event, veterans and the public are invited to enjoy the motorcycle reveal along with food from RockStar Food Truck and musical entertainment with DJ Dave from 12-4 PM.
