Cave Creek Museum Presents “A Dozen Ways of Dying in the Desert”

Featuring Len Marcisz

Cave Creek Museum Presents  will feature “A Dozen Ways of Dying in the Desert” on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 2-4 PM at the Cave Creek Museum.
“Rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, scorpions, mountain lions, heat stroke, hypothermia and bees. Oh my! What a way to go,” says featured speaker Leonard Marcisz. “There are so many unusual ways in which humans end up 10 toes in the air in the middle of the Sonoran Desert.“

The presentation, entitled “A Dozen Ways of Dying in the Desert,” introduces visitors to the prickly, spiny, thorny and horny (toad) neighbors in the Sonoran Desert community. The goal of the discussion is to tell the stories of the often-misunderstood flora and fauna Arizonans live with to help them feel at more at home in the beautiful Sonoran Desert.

Appointed by the Governor, Marcisz served on the board of directors of the Arizona Historical Society, a State of Arizona trustee agency that oversees several museums and historic properties across the state. He served from 2011 through 2015, and again during 2018 through 2019, including service as the board chairman and president.

Marcisz also served as vice chairman of the City of Scottsdale’s Historic Preservation Commission and on the board of directors of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. His articles regarding the history of the McDowell Mountains have appeared in several periodicals. In addition, Marcisz’s commentaries have appeared in Field & Stream, Travel & Leisure and Arizona Highways.

The workshop fee is $10 for non-members and is free for members. Registration is required. Visit cavecreekmuseum.org.
