Cave Creek Post Office resumes operations
Building is safe for occupancy after certification of mitigation efforts
CAVE CREEK, AZ – Out of an abundance of caution, Retail, Post Office Box, and Delivery operations at the Cave Creek Post Office, located at 38400 N School House Rd and Cave Creek Annex, 6710 East Cave Creek Road, Cave Creek, AZ 85331, were temporarily suspended on November 18, 2024, due to leakage of an improperly mailed package containing mercury. Delivery services in Cave Creek were interrupted on November 19 and regular delivery schedules resumed on November 20.
Both buildings have been cleared for re-occupancy and will be reopened Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Normal PO Box, pick up, and retail services are available at:
Cave Creek Post Office
38400 N School House Rd, Cave Creek, 85331

There are no retail or pick up services at the Cave Creek Annex. All mail and packages held at the Arcadia Post Office station have been returned to the Cave Creek Post Office.
The decision to reopen was made after a rapid response from an independent environmental team that conducted a full assessment of the facilities. This assessment included visual inspection, real-time air monitoring, and remediation/cleanup of any materials impacted by the contamination. All the areas in the facilities are well below the regulatory guidelines and deemed acceptable for re-entry.
As part of an assessment for re-occupation of the affected areas, industrial hygienists for both the environmental contractor and the Postal Service reviewed the data and compared that information against Federal Guidelines and Postal Policy.
At this time, the facilities are safe for re-occupancy. There is no danger to customers or employees.
The Postal Service apologizes for the inconvenience and looks forward to resuming service to customers.
