You may or may not realize how much politics influence the Real Estate market.
Even a small town like Cave Creek feels the effects. In the past election, the Scottsdale Area Association endorsed candidates after a panel of agents, none of which live in the towns of Cave Creek or Carefree, endorsed some candidates and offered to give them money towards their campaign.
I have always been vocal about my disapproval to my association regarding endorsements.
- Our Association covers 5 municipalities and many agents do not know all of them.
- I don’t feel the committee in any way understands the dynamics of our town.
- It’s very hard for candidates to raise money organically and giving a lot of money to certain people takes the votes away from the citizen. This year the Association outdid themselves and endorsed a candidate that actually talked about condemning someone’s private property.
We are supposed to protect private property rights. And I now have learned that Scottsdale received even more “influence” (I am told $100,000 worth) when the National Association of Realtors endorsed candidates. NAR is located in Chicago.
I just read in Costar that many of the commercial buildings along Michigan Avenue are in receivership. Do we want their influence on Scottsdale?
I can’t vote in Scottsdale but I shop there and enjoy its many restaurants.
I would prefer the citizens of Scottsdale do the choosing. Good Real Estate Agents will follow Politics so they can help their clients when they are making purchases or thinking of selling.
I do not agree with our Associations giving money to “their” selected candidates. This is my opinion, not that of any Association or Brokerage Company.
