The recent letter by Terry Webb was spot on about the proliferation of road signs in our Town. We are becoming a joke and the beauty of our Town is being destroyed by Town installed signs. Every time I go for a walk or drive, it seems a new sign fills a blank spot on the shoulder. The increased number of signs do not increase safety-there are so many that no one pays attention. The Town has not figured out that drunks, stoners and speeders don’t ever pay attention. Instead of talking about preservation, the mayor and council should put a moratorium on new signs.
And speaking of signs, what about the new Evacuation Route signs? I would recommend anyone living north of downtown try the route down Highland, so they can make an informed decision should it ever be necessary. From a safety standpoint, I personally would rather drive the half mile to town on Schoolhouse rather than the proposed route.
