Star gazing party event rescheduled for November 12

Clouds and rain forced a rescheduling of the Cave Creek Dark Sky Initiative’s (CCDSI) October 15th Star Gazing Party’s 3rd event in the Spur Cross Recreation Area. Even as the rain was falling, people were still sending in their RSVP’s for the festivities.

The new date, Saturday, November 12, has been secured at the same location.

Expect a new show that includes not only different constellations, galaxies, nebula, and star clusters from the previous shows, but also visible on the 12th, we will see the planets Saturn (Rings), Jupiter, Neptune, and Uranus. Just over the horizon, Mars will be visible a little later in the evening. The astronomy expert and NASA Ambassador Mark Johnston will transmit images, in real time, from his deep space telescope onto (5) large monitor screens while explaining what we are seeing. Stuart Brackney, a previous president of the Phoenix Astronomical Society will also be speaking.

For the first time a Raffle drawing will be held at this event… a $2,500 Telescope give-a-way for $10.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $50.00. There will be a few smaller prizes too. Additionally, printed material from NASA will be available at the raffle table.

CCDSI asks you to RSVP once again or RSVP for the first time for this entertaining and extremely informative show to [email protected].

Bring the kids, family and friends and please remember to bring folding chairs and Dress Warmly as it may get a little chilly. Arrive before 5:30pm, just before sunset to park (avoiding headlights effecting night vision), to buy raffle tickets and place your chair positions. Then relax and watch the light fade into darkness. The show will end at approximately 8:00 pm.

Donations accepted.
