Margaret Ann Hewell: 1940 – 2022

After living almost 82 years, her beautiful life, a gift to all who have known and loved her, Margaret Ann Hewell has fulfilled her strong faith, in returning to Christ our Lord on January 28, 2022. A member of Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church in Carefree, She passed peacefully surrounded by her daughters and husband.

Born April 9,1940 in El Paso, TX, to Edwin John Ryan & Bertha Krakauer Ryan, she spent her childhood with beloved older brother Edwin John Ryan, Jr. (Happy), grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins in Chihuahua, Mexico. When International business took her parents abroad, Margaret attended American boarding high schools, Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC, graduating from Pine Crest in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Many of her favorite memories and stories were of visiting dignitaries, such as Adlai Stevenson, being hosted by her parents in their home.

She continued her education at University of Little Rock before she moved to Atlanta, where she began her life’s work and joy. She raised her four daughters, Beverly, Jacqueline, Donna, and Linda in Atlanta before deciding to move to Texas to be near family. In Dallas, she met and married the love of her life, Jim, whom she married August 10, 1980.
Their journey drew them back to the southeast for many years. With her resilient spirit, Margaret seemed to accomplish anything she desired with grace and ease, always creating a beautiful, warm and inviting home, hosting a house full of activities & friends.

She was an avid animal lover, always having dogs, as well as even breeding a few litters of AKC puppies. To supplement her active home life, she was a substitute teacher in the schools, worked in banking and accounting, and volunteered for various charities through her churches.

She enjoyed greatly the beauty of nature and the seasons, trees and flowers. Life was enhanced 18 years ago when Jim retired and they moved to Arizona to be closer to the family who all lived out west.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, Daughters: Beverly, Jackie & Tom, Donna, and Linda & Tom as well as Grandchildren: Beverly’s sons: Ryan & his wife Satinder, Sam, and Nathan, Donna’s daughter Hanna and son, Ben.
Margaret painted a beautiful canvas with her life and loved her family deeply. We are forever grateful and she will be so missed. She can be visited in her final resting place at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale.
