I mulled over for days the best way to convey my thoughts without contributing to an already divided and politically charged atmosphere, so I’ll just say this: I understand that his opinion piece, titled Voter Fraud and the Banana Republic, was written and sent to print prior to the rioting and deaths that occurred in our nation’s Capital on January 6th. What is discouraging is the use of the Dr.’s language that promotes hate and violence, i.e.: “…this must be seen to finality, … life and death fight, … fight together as if we were fighting a world war.” War is certainly what we got on January 6th.
This paper has a responsibility. The press is already under siege and has been referred to many times as “the enemy of the people.”. Given The Maverick Dr.’s tone, language and rhetoric, I am surprised your paper would continue to condone this. The Maverick Dr. is welcomed to have his views and I believe it is good for all of us to hear from diverse opinions, and, “as I see it” if he continues to push false-antagonistic narratives, your paper and readers would benefit more from voices that want to bring our country together, bring insight and understanding and most importantly; facts and truths. It is also my hope your paper exercise responsible journalism in printing fact based stories and refrain from viewpoints that are radical.
The Sonoran News could be a light that shines on the hate and division and makes our little corner of the world a little better. Thank you.
