Beverly Metcalfe Brooks
1938 – 2021
Beverly Metcalfe Brooks passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2021 after having suffered a stroke in March of 2020.
Beverly Ann Myhre was born to Beuell and Esther Myhre in Zion, Illinois on July 12, 1938. They lived in Zion for 7 years before moving to Elcho, Wisconsin for 6 years, then moving back to Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.
Beverly loved her time riding horses and being around animals on their farm in Wisconsin. When they returned to Illinois, she was able to have her own horse to ride and care for. Beverly finished school in Illinois and got a job in transportation, first working for Zion Industries as an assistant traffic manager and later for Motor Cargo Truck Lines as an assistant terminal manager.
While on vacation in Arizona, on a Hube Yates trail ride between Heber and Cave Creek, Beverly met Bill Metcalfe and a short time later (November 1960) they started married life living in Cave Creek.
Bill and Beverly had 2 children: Rusty and Randi. Beverly’s life in Cave Creek was quite involved with the Cave Creek Mothers Club, the annual Christmas Pageant, Cub Scout den mother, Boy Scout board member, Cave Creek Saddle Club and helping husband Bill with his home construction business in addition to raising two young ones.
Bill and Beverly enjoyed riding horses around the Cave Creek desert area with friends. Unfortunately, while in her late thirties Beverly’s asthma got worse and she became allergic to her horse and had to give up riding.
Bill and Beverly were married 22 years until his death in September of 1982 from a heart attack. The next couple of years were lean with Beverly, Rusty and Randi all working and adjusting to the new reality.
Then Beverly met and married, Carefree resident, Chuck Brooks an engineer at Intel. Chuck and Beverly moved to and lived in Scottsdale for 11 years, until Chuck retired in 1995. During this time, Beverly worked at some retail shops, and at the Desert Forrest Golf shop and was a volunteer for the Salvation Army. After retirement, they moved back to Cave Creek and Beverly started volunteering at the Cave Creek Museum where she eventually took on the job of Historian.
Bev always enjoyed live entertainment and especially musical programs. Beverly was a very caring person, always ready to help friends that were having a hard time. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren, and was a good wife and helpmate to both her husbands.
Beverly is survived by her brother Gene Myhre, husband Chuck Brooks, son Rusty Metcalfe and daughter-in-law Cindy, daughter Randi (Metcalfe) Berthold, step daughters Patty (Brooks)Howe and Cindy (Brooks) Aranda and grandchildren: Maxx Metcalfe, Samm Metcalfe, Dusty Berthold, Jake Howe and Julia Howe.
