Kay Janice King-Goldsmith passed on Friday January 1, 2021 at her home in Scottsdale, AZ with her husband at her bedside.
Born in Flint, MI to Dorthea and Kenneth King on Jan. 13, 1937 she resided in Midland, MI for many years and graduated from Midland public schools. She then graduated from Western Michigan University with an Associate Degree.
She married James Harrison, also of Midland, and a student at Michigan State University and subsequently moved to Phoenix, AZ.
In 1964 a job transfer took the family to Clearwater, FL. Kay was a member of Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in Clearwater.
After a divorce she married Melvin (Sonny) Goldsmith on October 16, 1982.
In 1982 she and her husband moved to Scottsdale, AZ where she resided until her passing.
She was employed for many years as a secretary at Oldsmobile in Michigan, Motorola in Phoenix and Hercules Sealing Products in Clearwater, FL as well has having her own private secretarial business for many years.
Kay loved the arts and they were a big part of her life. She was especially accomplished as a watercolor artist and at pencil sketching. She also loved music, especially classical music, and she loved playing her Steinway baby grand piano and attending Phoenix Symphony concerts.
Kay volunteered extensively at the Good Shepard of the Hills Episcopal Church thrift store, the Gold Mine, in Cave Creek, AZ.
Kay loved her beautiful Arizona and was especially happy when the opportunity presented to move back to Arizona in 1982. She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing various areas of the state and taking out of state visitors to the Grand Canyon. She also loved looking at the Matazal Mountains and Four Peaks from the patio of her home on the Tonto National Forest in Scottsdale.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents as well as brother Kenneth Stanley King, infant brothers Matthew and John King and adoptive mother Marjorie (Johnson) King.
Kay is survived by her husband of 38 years Melvin (Sonny) Goldsmith, children Susan Bean-Clark (Norman) of Phoenix, AZ., Clayton Harrison of Clearwater, FL., sisters Keni Bothwell of Brookfield, WI., Mary Reidy (Kevin) of Spokane, WA., as well as granddaughters Holly Baker (Brandon) of Brentwood, TN., Heather Harrison of Clearwater, FL., Hanna Homan (Ryan) of Palm Harbor, FL., along with 5 great-grandchildren and nieces Michelle Mathew (Joseph) of Maple Valley, WA., Amanda Kurowski (Patrick) of White Fish Bay, WI. and Cara Reidy of Spokane, WA.
A private service will be held at the family home at a future date.
