Dig our your Christmas sweaters and jingle bells and celebrate the season with the Scottsdale Concert Band with a free concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
The performance, titled “Holiday Pops,” will take place at Coronado High School ‘s Eugene L. Hanson Auditorium, 7501 E. Virginia Ave., Scottsdale.
On the program will be old favorites such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “O Holy Night.”
Other numbers will be “Hebraic Rhapsody,” “Midnight Sleighride” and “Minor Alterations: Christmas Through the Looking Glass.”
Joining the band as vocal soloist will be Justin Carpenter, who currently is pursuing a doctorate of musical arts degree at Arizona State University and teaches voice at Grand Canyon University. He has been a finalist in Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions.
The Scottsdale Concert Band, a 75-member community ensemble, directed by Michele Kalo, is sponsored by Scottsdale Community College and performs four concerts per year. It is now in its 42nd season. The band also holds a Sudler Silver Scroll award.
The Sudler Silver Scroll is presented by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and is the most prestigious award available to a community concert band.
