Kicks Off Art Season on Nov. 1, 2 & 3
Artist Boris Kramer Explores Human Relationships with Metal Sculptures
CAREFREE – The award-winning Thunderbird Artists kicks off the arts season with its 26th Annual Fall Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 1, 2 & 3 along Ho Hum and Easy Streets in downtown Carefree. The popular Carefree show features 165 renowned, juried artists who will showcase and sell their original work from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
A popular event for locals and tourists alike, Thunderbird Artists’ Fall Carefree show was recently ranked as the No. 2 arts festival in the country, behind La Quinta Arts Festival in California. The prestigious industry accolade was included in Greg Lawler’s Art Fair SourceBook (AFSB) 2019 “Premier 100” Fine Art Events. Thunderbird Artists’ Carefree January and March shows also ranked well at No. 45 and No. 53.
Humanity Captured in Metal
Guests attending the festival will have a rare chance to meet artist Boris Kramer, who will exhibit a variety of evocative, contemporary metal sculptures.
“Boris captures a wide spectrum of emotions between lovers, family members, friends, co-workers and others with his sleek metal sculptures,” said Thunderbird Artists President Denise Colter. “He works with different types of metal and there is a wonderful contrast between the strength of his medium and the tenderness of his subject matters.”
Kramer was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and learned about metal and art from his father, Richard Kramer, an acclaimed artist and blacksmith. While he shares his father’s fascination with human relationships, he has developed his own distinct style.
“Through art, I explore humanity…in particular, the ways in which we are drawn together,” Kramer said. “I heat and form metal until it emulates expressions of human relationships. When heated, metal is very forgiving, which is why I choose it as a medium.”
Each sculpture is hand formed, using both modern and ancient blacksmithing. Sizes range from 10 inches to monumental.
Throughout the three-day festival, patrons can take in live music and enjoy wine tastings, microbrews, and a variety of festival food. The festival’s featured performer, AfterGlow will perform contemporary jazz and funk tunes all three days in the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion. Other participating musicians include Vibhas Kendzia, a master of the Indian flute.
