North Scottsdale Team Ranks No. 2 in Valley for Fundraising
On Saturday, November 9, a team of Terravita residents will join forces to walk for Parkinson’s at Moving Day Phoenix, part of a nation-wide fundraising effort organized by the Parkinson’s Foundation. The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at Kiwanis Park in Tempe.
Since 2011, Moving Day events across the country have gathered more than 130,000 participants and raised nearly $22 million to improve care and advance research toward a cure.
Moving Day Phoenix will be the first annual event in the Valley. As of October 7, the local event has already raised more than $40,000 toward its goal of $85,000, with 24 teams registered to walk.
North Scottsdale-based Team Terravita Walkers has achieved almost 90 percent of its $2,000 goal solely through individual donations, ranking second among all 24 teams, with one month to go before the event.
“We’re a group of friends whose lives – like so many – have all been touched by Parkinson’s,” said Cathy Boss-Fessel, team captain of Terravita Walkers. “It’s personal for us, so we’re asking friends and neighbors to join and support us. We also plan to have a lot of fun at the same time!”
Affecting nearly one million Americans and 10 million people worldwide, Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th leading cause of death in the United States. The Parkinson’s Foundation makes life better for people with PD by improving care and advancing research toward a cure.
The Parkinson’s Foundation has achieved a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities.
