In an October 4 article in the Arizona Republic about Vice President Michael Pence’s visit to Arizona, the following statement was included:
“Assertions by Trump and his allies that the Bidens were involved in wrongdoing are unfounded.”
How either of the reporters, Yvonne Sanchez or Rafael Carranza, reached that conclusion would be a matter of great interest to me. Who has determined the allegations were unfounded? Had they chosen to use ‘unproven’ rather than ‘unfounded’, that may have been acceptable, but obviously they elected to inject their own opinion instead of following basic journalistic norms.
Isn’t it about time the Republic started putting opinions back on the editorial page and instructed its reporters to report? What a novel idea that would be. Maybe it would attract back some of the 50% of the readers they’ve lost to once again buying and reading their newspaper.
This kind of writing is disgraceful and a gross disservice to Arizona readers. It should also be an embarrassment to whichever editor let this go through. True journalists are roiling in their graves today.
