Changes to the signage section of the Cave Creek Zoning Ordinances brought much discussion at February 19 meeting. Concerns over sandwich signs, banners, and fees for signs were all topics that came up. The Town, like most others in the state, must change its current signage ordinances due to a recent Supreme Court decision regarding a municipality regulating what can be on a sign and free speech. The motion to give first reading to the new sign rules, which were approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission in December, carried by a four to three vote. The ordinance must pass a second reading at the next Town Council meeting in order to become part of the zoning regulations.
The Council approved an agenda item to spend $460,428 for engineering services for designs for upgrading the pump stations that bring Central Arizona Project water to the Town. The motion passed by a six to one margin.
