Alan R. Haugner, age 77, left his struggle with cancer to be with the Lord on May 20, 2016 in Cave Creek, Arizona. He was born on July 12, 1938 to the late Alfred and Marjorie (Ogilvie) Haugner in Grafton, North Dakota. Alan was raised in Port Huron, Michigan and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in business. He was a Delta Upsilon. After college he attended the U.S. Naval Officer Supply School in Athens, Georgia and was assigned to the USS Gurke DD783 for duty in 1961 and 1962 in the Pacific during the cold war to observe nuclear testing. He married and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he was President of the Martel State Bank. Alan was active with the Nebraska Young Republicans and was Richard Nixon’s Chauffer and only protection for his day long visit to Lincoln. In 1978 he moved to New York state with Environ Oil & Gas and later started his own company. In 1983 he married Kathleen Nelson Mattocks and began a career with Merrill Lynch in Jamestown, New York. In 1987 he transferred to a Scottsdale office of Merrill Lynch as a Certified Financial Planner where he served the communities of North Scottsdale, Carefree, and Cave Creek. He retired in 2001. Alan was active in community affairs in Carefree and Cave Creek, serving as President of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree from 1994-1995 for which he was awarded the prestigious Hixen award. He supported his wife’s many charitable activities in the community and enjoyed spending his time with his good friends at Harold’s “office.” Alan is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his sisters, Penny Pease and Pam Schuldt; and four nieces and nephews and their children. He also leaves his loving daughters, Cindy Ashcroft and Julie Korte; and grandchildren, Drew, Cole, and Ali Ashcroft and Jacob and Jason Korte. Alan is also survived by his step-son, Christopher Mattochs and step-grandchildren, Alexander, Zachery, and Macie. The memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Carefree Highway Community Church, 5025 East Carefree Hwy. in Cave Creek.
