Dear Sonoran News,
The Graham-Cassidy bill with its deep cuts to Medicaid, price gouging
for people with pre-existing conditions and an age-tax for seniors is
unacceptable.
It would jeopardize older Americans’ ability to stay in their own homes
as they age, and threaten coverage for people with disabilities and
people who live in nursing homes.
Healthcare providers and advocates know that this is a disastrous
direction for healthcare.
Senate leaders know that these kinds of extreme measures are not
supported by Americans so they want to rush this bill into law before
anyone has the chance to contest it.
Both the democrats and the republicans need work together to research,
plan, and constructively debate the pros and cons of a viable, fair
health care bill. This takes time. This secretive, sneaky,
under-the-table partisan approach to legislation is unethical and needs
to stop.
Our country needs a congress that has integrity and genuinely cares
about the needs of the American people–not one that is self-serving
and creates unfair, destructive legislation for the masses all the
while including exclusions for members of congress.
I think a law should be passed that allows members of congress to only
have Medicaid coverage while serving in office. They should have no
medical coverage included in their retirement packages so they will
have to depend on Medicare in their senior years like the rest of us.
Perhaps then we will start seeing more just, ethical and humane bills
being proposed.
Sincerely,
Linda Fiske
