Recycle valuable metal items on Earth Day for charity

A unique recycling drive to benefit charity will be held this upcoming Earth Day – April 22 – to collect valuable metal items for sale to a recycling center. The Missions team of Desert Mission United Methodist Church invites everyone to drive by and drop off aluminum, copper, brass, and steel items, and even irreparably damaged gold and silver jewelry. Drop-offs will be accepted between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, on the circular driveway of the church, which is located at 7373 E. Dixileta Drive in north Scottsdale. Missions team members will be on hand to assist people making drop-offs. All proceeds from the recycling drive will help fund Missions outreach efforts to support our military troops, local food banks, homeless shelters, and other nonprofit organizations. An added benefit of such recycling events is that it keeps reusable materials out of the landfill.

Examples of items that can be donated to be recycled include:
Aluminum – cans, lawn chairs, flag poles, mop handles, ladders
Copper – plumbing parts, wiring, damaged silverplate (underlying metal is copper)
Brass – keys, tokens, candlesticks, vases, lamps, bowls, ashtrays
Steel – oven racks, shovels, rakes, tools, golf clubs, bicycles
Gold & silver – irreparably damaged jewelry, solo earrings

Desert Mission UMC encourages you to spread the word about this win-win recycling event. Tell friends, relatives, and neighbors about it, offer to drop off donations, and post it in your HOA newsletter and on the Nextdoor app.
