We were attracted to Carefree for its small town, open Sonoran, resident friendly and conservative government. Electing a mayor expecting would stand tall to maintain the character and identity of the town we bought and love. WHAT HAPPENED? The mayor not only tried to sell us a property tax but supported excessive residential development compromising our Sonoran environment as well. Did the mayor consider Carefree’s identity when he approved the Hampton Inn? Most disturbing though is the mayor’s refusal to accept and reject what voters mandated. DOGE and Transparency. Number’s of residents have asked our mayor to disclose the individual salaries and questionable expenses he approves. He refuses. WHY? It has been said those that reject DOGE are either stupid, dislike America, or have something to hide. The mayor is smart and loves America. WHAT”S LEFT?
During the last town meeting the mayor chose two finance speakers to put his spin on Carefree’s current and future financial situation. Unlike the mayor’s speakers a first- year student would have addressed reducing expenses. Especially since his speakers admitted that a recession or any other reason for under-performing retail tax revenue would require a property tax. Trump confirmed that during this transitional period a recession is possible.
Given this, the mayor was offered to meet with an expert to discuss significantly reducing expenses while making carefree more efficient. Did he accept?
NO!
Is obtaining this information only about money? OF COURSE NOT! It is more about keeping Carefree Carefree. Other towns that were comfortable and passive while their mayor rejected transparency woke up after it was too late asking “How The H Did This Happen”. Unless you feel you are not entitled to transparency contact the mayor and councilmen. Ask them why they refuse to answer questions the residents that elected them ask. Asking our administrator who the mayor pays twice the salary of Arizona’s Governor and more than the $174,000 US Senator salary is pointless.
