Town checking homes identified as potentially having lead pipe water lines

The EPA has required all public water systems in the United States to identify the material of all water service lines from the water mains to customer buildings to determine whether there are any lead water lines in the system. The Town of Cave Creek has sent a letter to utility users who may have lead water lines. If you did not receive a notification from the Town, it has already been determined that your line is non-lead material.

The Town of Cave Creek will inspect the inventory throughout the system to identify your service line material. The inspections are performed outside and involve visual verification near the water meter. Staff may also contact you in the future to help perform an inspection of the service line material where water enters your home to determine the material type.

If you wish to determine the material of your line yourself, the EPA has developed a guide at https://www.epa.gov/ground-water-and-drinking-water/protect-your-tap-quick-check-lead.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has raised its drinking water standards to better protect children and communities from the potential risks of lead getting into water through the corrosion of outdated plumbing. The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) limit the levels of lead and copper metals in water by improving water treatment centers, replacing water service lines containing lead or galvanized material, and educating the public on ways to lessen the risks of lead exposure.
