The Town of Carefree proudly announces “Wings and Wheels,” a celebration of the Town’s 40th anniversary in partnership with SkyRanch at Carefree. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this family-friendly event will offer a blend of aviation, automotive history, and community spirit in the scenic Sonoran Desert.
The day will begin with a special tribute to honor our veterans. Members of The American Legion will raise the flag, accompanied by a performance from the youth choir of Our Lady of Joy and then crowned by a thrilling flyover by The Falcon Warbirds, marking a fitting start to this memorable celebration.
“Wings and Wheels” will feature an impressive static array of approximately 20 planes and 50 vehicles, spanning a wide variety of models and eras.
Attendees can look forward to remote control plane and drone demonstrations, along with simulator experiences provided by Aerial Engagement for guests to try their hand at piloting. Live music will add to the vibrant atmosphere throughout the day. Varsity Sports Show will keep the energy high as the event’s MC.
Please note that car and plane entries are NOT open to the public, only SkyRanch Airport community members are permitted to enter.
A range of food and beverage options will be available, including coffee from Chickies Coffee to kickstart the morning. Delicious meals will be served up by local favorites such as
Gangster AZ offering burgers, Ken’s Dogfellaz with hot dogs and trimmings, and Habaneros Street Tacos for a flavorful Mexican menu. For dessert, Frios Gourmet Pops will satisfy your sweet tooth.
SkyRanch at Carefree is more than a venue; it has been a part of Carefree’s history since the 1950s, before the Town was officially incorporated. As a longtime hub for aviators, travelers, and enthusiasts, it symbolizes the adventurous spirit that defines Carefree. The “Wings and Wheels” event serves as a tribute to SkyRanch’s legacy and its continuing impact on the vibrant community.
Several local organizations are lending their support to ensure a successful event. Sanderson Lincoln will bring vehicles to display. The Arizona Pilots Association will be on hand assisting with the event, while Foothills Caring Corps will provide shuttle services. The AZ Rangers will aid with security and traffic control, and the Kiwanis Club of Carefree will supply seating for attendees to relax and enjoy their refreshments. Additionally, the Carefree Fire Department will be present with a firetruck to support the event and ensure safety.

Carefree lights up!
Festive Small-Experience the magic of the holiday season as Carefree Lights Up! Join us on November 30th at 5 p.m. for a charming small-town celebration to light the 20-foot Christmas tree next to the Veterans Memorial in the Carefree Desert Gardens. The festivities begin with the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church Bell Ringers filling the air with cheerful chimes followed by carolers from Our Lady of Joy Church choir group, Joyful Sounds, singing classic holiday songs perfect for everyone to join in.
Mayor John Crane will share some words and holiday wishes before leading the tree lighting countdown. Carefree’s tree and illuminated gardens have long been a beloved part of the town’s Christmas tradition, embodying the heart-warming spirit of the community during this magical time of year.
After the tree lighting, head to the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion to continue the festivities. As you walk over enjoy a string performance by the Jubilate Conservatory of Music, and warm up with hot chocolate and coffee from No Filter Coffee, complete with all the fixings for the perfect warm treat.
The holiday concert will begin around 6:00 p.m., featuring a lineup of local talent, including 10-15 student singers organized by Kevin Glenn, the Desert Cactus Kickers dance troupe, and the POP (Performing Outreach Project) dance group brought in by Kenda Newbury.

15th annual Veterans Day Celebration
An event dedicated to honoring the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of our nation’s veterans. This cherished community tradition will take place on Monday, November 11, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion, as we unite to celebrate those who have selflessly served to protect our freedoms.
Event Highlights:
- Keynote Speaker: U.S. Army Master Sergeant David Allwine, a Vietnam War veteran and former POW, will share personal reflections from his years of service (1966–1986) and his time as a POW, offering insights on resilience and patriotism.
- Youth Involvement: The Imprints of Honor program (formerly the Veterans Heritage Project) will feature U.S. Marine Corps Captain Sophie Ripa, who will share how connecting with veterans as a student impacted her life and career.
- Honor Flight Arizona Presentation: Diane Franzese, board member of Honor Flight Arizona, will recount meaningful stories of veterans who have taken part in their trips to Washington, D.C., and provide information on how local veterans can apply.
- Patriotic Performances: Musical tributes will include renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” by Annalyn Abraham, patriotic favorites by the Carolyn Eynon Singers, and classic tunes by The Main Event Swing Band. The event will close with a moving performance of The Last Post and TAPS on responding bugles.
