Call for students for Hidden in the Hills Studio 1 Showcase!

Judy Bruce

Talented hardworking local students will showcase their artwork for up to 6 days of the studio tour. Youth Art at Studio 1 has been part of Hidden In The Hills for the past 25 years and offers a fun fabulous glimpse into these talented young artists from our community. Painters, sculptors and mixed media artists from 6th grade to college will be exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their work at The Sonoran Arts League Studio in Stagecoach Village! This is a fantastic opportunity for our young artists to get a taste of the artistic life!

Oh-wait, isn’t a passion for creative expression a one-way ticket to unemployment? No, says Jerry Cianciolo, chief editor at Emerson and Church, Publishers in Medfield, Mass. A study completed by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project found that of 13, 500 arts graduates of 154 institutions, 92% of those who sought jobs after graduation found it, 66% of the young artists first job was a match to the kind of work they wanted. Further, 70% of those employed in the fine arts were “very satisfied” with their jobs and the creative opportunities it provided, notwithstanding low pay.

What is really striking about these levels of satisfaction is that the opposite is true for other American workers as reported by the Gallop organization. They found 70% of American workers are not engaged but actively disengaged and emotionally disengaged from their workplaces. We see this especially after Covid.

On average, more than 70% of artists like /love their jobs. I know I have loved my 35 years of teaching art and 25 years in my studio. I will touch upon some of our student artists who are pursuing exciting art careers in future articles. We know that life/job satisfaction is more important to happiness than anything else! We know we must support our youth, so let’s encourage our young artists. Let’s encourage them to follow their dreams, their first love and find a well fulfilled life of art! Stop by Studio 1 during Hidden in the Hills because…
