No to 4-yr terms

Cave Creek’s ballot includes propositions to increase mayor and council terms from 2 to 4 years. The present 2-year terms are working in the best interest of Cave Creek voters. In the 2022 election, there were twelve candidates running for six council seats. Three incumbents won reelection and three new candidates won seats.  In the current election, four incumbents and four new candidates are competing for council seats.  Cave Creek’s 2-year terms give voters a good balance of choice between incumbents and new candidates. Join me in voting “No” on Propositions 483 and 484.

The Mayor Morris June 19th Letter to the Editor made statements about changes I, as candidate for mayor, would supposedly bring to the budget. I never made these statements. The Morris administration increased the FY2022/23 budget of $40.0 million to a FY2023/24 budget of $56.5 million. This is an increase of 41.3% or $16.5 million.  The FY2024/25 budget was increased to $57.4 million. These two budgets overextend Cave Creek’s financial resources and are unsustainable.  If future budgets are not lowered, the next cycle of recession will force Cave Creek to reduce capital improvements and services.

My Masters’ Degree in Economics is from the University of Arizona. I worked for the State of Arizona Finance Department and consulted with State Agencies about management practices and financial situations.  I worked for 11 years for the Phoenix City Managers’ Office. I prepared a draft of a financial plan for the Water and Wastewater 20-year Capital Improvement Program. From my economic and financial experience, I know Mayor Morris’ budgets are neither transparent nor sustainable. I will bring an annual budget to the Council and Community that preserves our financial future.
