My name is Judy Bruce; I am a former art teacher and local artist who is very concerned about the role that art should play in our beautiful community.
I will be writing this column with other league members to discuss the arts and the Sonoran Arts League so that you will see art not as a frill but as a necessary component of a well-lived life.
Art is healing, lifesaving, and creates purpose in many lives. The Sonoran Arts League is a charitable nonprofit organization that puts the community first. The League awards incentive bags filled with art supplies to over one hundred local youth artists, every spring, as well as scholarships to local high school seniors for continuing arts education.
Kiwanis Club of Carefree sponsors many art classes for our young artists and their awards. The Sonoran Arts League provides weekly Veteran classes, also funded by our very generous local Kiwanis Club of Carefree. Many of you have been to Hidden in the Hills, which can bring great joy as you encounter wonderful artwork and talk to the local artists. Hidden in the Hills also brings money into the community’s restaurants and shops.
We will be expanding on the above in the following weeks. I hope to see you at our many art events at the League Gallery, Studio, and at the Desert Foothills Library. Whether you are producing, looking at, buying, or supporting art, always remember… “YOU GOTTA HAVE ART”!
