Local youth takes aim at Jr. World Championship

Granddaughter of the late Larry Wendt of The Buffalo Chip Saloon, Indigo Wendt has been competing in Junior Rodeo for 3 years and now has qualified for the Vegas Tuffest Junior World Championship in Las Vegas, NV.

She competes in Arizona Junior Rodeo, Queen Creek Junior Rodeo and Arizona Junior High School Rodeo. She has had a passion for horses since she was 4 years old and has practiced in all areas of Rodeo.

She competes in Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Ribbon Roping and Goat Tying. This year she was also selected to be on the prestigious Kimes Ranch Junior Team with 10 other youth across the country and Canada.

Qualifying for a National Championship has always been a goal for Indigo and she qualified in Breakaway, Barrels and Goat Tying. There were about 25-30 qualifying events across the US starting in January. The Qualifiers only take the top 2 (winners) from each event and she was one of two at her qualifier in August. She will be set to compete starting on December 7 and continue through December 11.

Besides Rodeo, Indigo is a straight A student and enjoys spending time with her friends. She has grown up in Cave Creek and you can often find her riding her horses down Cave Creek road.
