Steven Russell Thompson passed away September 10, 2023.
He was born in Phoenix, Arizona to parents, Wayne Collins Thompson, Jr. and Marcella “Marianne” Wynn on June 6, 1953.
From a young age he looked at the world with a vibrant imagination, an artistic eye and flexed these gifts with a rich imaginative play. He graduated from Palo Verde Elementary School in 1967, Cortez High School in 1971, attended and taught Photography at Glendale Community College, Phoenix College and several other institutes.
Steve moved to Cave Creek, Arizona in the early 70’s, spent a few years in New York City and returned to his roots and beloved Cave Creek.
He was an accomplished photographer and perfected photography. His natural talent as a photographer, led him to such accomplishments as being published in the Arizona Highway, Phoenix Magazine, the Cave Creek/Carefree Calendar and several others.
He enjoyed interacting with nature in the forests of Arizona and surrounding areas. He had a deep appreciation for nature and animals. His menagerie of pets, ranged from horny toads, rattle snakes, exotic fish, macaws, a Gila monster and dogs. His real love was his wolves, Dakota and Shilo, who he treated like family members.
He loved his family and friends beyond measure. He is survived by his sister, Susan, brother-inlaw, John, niece, Jennifer, stepfather, Marvin and several close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cryin’ Coyote BBQ on Sunday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m.
