We are finally starting to see some light and improvements in our economy. There is a fly in the ointment, so to speak. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPS) is considering many new regulations that could negatively affect the price of consumer goods, homes, cars, and other household goods. Particularly, they are taking aim at the chemical sector which is critical to manufacturing many products from microchips to shoes and textiles. One chemical, Ethylene Oxide, is used nationwide to sterilize half of the medical devices and personal protection devices used by doctors and hospitals.
These chemicals are not only critical to manufacturing, but replacements may not be readily available. The regulatory overburdens many manufacturers and will result in higher prices being passed on to the consumer. Congress needs to take a hard look at these proposed regulations and provide oversight to the EPA to ensure we do not give our shaky economy a negative hit.
