Ozone therapy is an alternative medical treatment that involves administering ozone gas to the body in various ways, such as intravenous infusion, injection into muscles and joints, (never directly into the bloodstream) or topical application. Many practitioners claim that it offers several potential benefits. Here are some of the proposed benefits of ozone therapy.
Improved oxygenation
Ozone therapy is thought to enhance the delivery of oxygen to tissues, potentially improving overall oxygen metabolism in the body. It is believed that ozone stimulates the production of red blood cells and increases the flexibility of cell membranes, which may improve oxygen uptake and utilization. In my office, we get great results with musculoskeletal conditions especially joint disorders. We also use it for increasing healing after surgery, and injuries. It quickens healing time very effectively. We use it in conjunction with Platelet-Rich-Plasma, (PRP) to enhance it’s benefits.
Enhanced immune system function
Ozone therapy may stimulate the immune system by increasing the production of immune cells and activating antioxidant enzymes. This can potentially improve the body’s ability to fight infections and diseases.
Anti-inflammatory effects
Ozone has been suggested to have anti-inflammatory properties, potentially reducing inflammation in the body. It is thought to modulate the release of various pro-inflammatory substances and promote the production of anti-inflammatory molecules. It can expedite healing from dental surgery by ozonating water, and rinsing the mouth with it.
Antimicrobial activity
Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent and has the ability to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms. It is believed that ozone therapy can help eliminate infections by destroying pathogens directly or by stimulating the immune system to target them.
Pain relief
Many proponents of ozone therapy claim that it can help alleviate pain by reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and modulating pain perception. It is suggested that ozone may stimulate the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving substances produced by the body. We use it regularly for spasmed muscles, muscle injuries, and muscular conditions that otherwise do not respond to traditional therapies.
Improved circulation
Ozone therapy is thought to improve blood circulation and oxygen delivery to tissues by increasing the flexibility and elasticity of red blood cells, reducing blood viscosity, and dilating blood vessels. This enhanced circulation can potentially benefit various health conditions.
Potential anti-cancer effects
There is some research suggesting that ozone therapy may have anti-cancer properties. Ozone is thought to selectively target cancer cells by increasing oxidative stress, impairing their metabolism, and promoting apoptosis, or programmed cell death. I will add that we do not treat cancer in my office. Researching a practitioner who does would be needed to treat cancer with ozone.
It’s important to approach ozone therapy with caution and consult with a qualified healthcare professional before considering it as a treatment option. The therapy should be administered by trained practitioners in appropriate clinical settings. At Accurate Care Medical Wellness Center, our Nurse Practitioners are well versed in ozone therapy, and have extensive experience. We get great results for patients with many different conditions on each of the methods of ozone therapy we offer.
