Mayor Morris Writes

At the regular Town Council meeting and Public Hearing on June 5th, the final budget for the Town of Cave Creek’s fiscal year 2023-2024 was adopted.
This budget will solve problems of public safety, fire/emergency medical protection, and eliminate many risks to the operation of the Town’s water and sewer systems.
Some examples are:

  • The Phoenix interconnect water project eliminates many single points of failure where Phoenix water can be imported to address equipment failure.
  • Pedestrian safety on the east end of Cave Creek Road including crossing safety, walkways, and controlling excess vehicle speed.
  • Spending on road repairs is now on a 3-year program to catch up on needed repairs. We will increase spending from $0.5 million to about $2 million.

I’m very glad much needed additional traffic enforcement has been added to the budget as Cave Creek Road and neighborhood speeding will be targeted.

With temperatures heating up, summer just around the corner, and vegetation starting to dry up, we recently raised the fire danger from HIGH to VERY HIGH and implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions. We want to avoid a repeat of our fires in 2020, which were both human caused.
Per Town Code, Stage I restrictions include (but are not limited to):

  • No smoking in any outside area with combustible ground cover, outside of vehicles, residential yards, or designated smoking areas.
  • No spark-generating activities outside of an enclosed building without first obtaining a permit and inspection from the Town, including welding, grinding, braising, or cutting steel.
  • On Red Flag Warning days as issued by the National Weather Service, all spark-generating activities shall be prohibited.
  • No use of ignition-driven model rockets is allowed.
  • No use of flame-based weed removal is allowed.
  • All cooking, warming, or campfires in all areas must have the responsible party within sight of the flame and the fire must always be attended to until the flame has been extinguished and the coals are cold to the touch.
  • Please be careful out there and check the Town’s website CaveCreekAZ.gov for updates.

We were delighted to add several establishments to our Local Landmark program recently, including the American Legion Post 34, Buffalo Chip Saloon, Cave Creek Museum, Desert Foothills Library, and the Horny Toad. Cave Creek Local Landmarks are iconic buildings and spaces in Town recognized by a bronze plaque award.
It’s these and all Cave Creek businesses that contribute to keeping the great Town of Cave Creek running full steam ahead. More Local Landmarks planned for this year include:
Black Mountain Track and Feed, El Encanto, Frontier Town, Indian Village, and Le Sans Souci French Restaurant.
