In your March 2 print edition, Les Peterson signed his letter, ‘Carefree Resident’. It appears the downgrade from Carefree Mayor will occur in relatively short order. Unfortunately, for most Carefree residents, it has not been soon enough. And, contrary to his Carefree Unity group’s endlessly repeated claims and paid advertisements, We Are NOT All In This Together. Why is that so? Because 80% of Carefree residents, who he never permitted a say in the matter, are now strapped with a $32,000,000 million debt.
The glaring arrogance of his statement, “Why would 85% of Carefree residents living outside The Boulders want to pay for the removal of an underground fresh water reservoir only to have it placed in someone else’s backyard at a higher cost to all residents” is astounding. A much better question, is why would 80% of all Carefree residents want to pay $32,000,000 for the remaining 20%, who already have ADEQ approved potable water from Cave Creek? The answer to the latter question is, Les Peterson never allowed them to vote on the matter. He knew the outcome of a vote would be unfavorable.
