(Editor’s note: Cave Creek Town Council member Bob Morris has issued the following statement.)
“I am running for Mayor of Cave Creek in the 2022 election. I plan to finish the water renaissance, implement the NO NEW TAX financial plan for fire protection and preserve both our desert and dark skies.”
“I will finance this mayoral effort personally and will accept no donations for the unpaid, volunteer position.”
My mission started in 2012 with my appointment to the Water Advisory Committee. From the first meeting it was apparent the Town had serious problems in nearly every aspect of its utilities. I am a Chemical Engineer, business strategist, financial analyst, and executive manager so this was a challenger I could not pass by.
My passion for Cave Creek and Arizona has a long history.
My grandparents came to Arizona Territory in a wagon drawn by horses. They homesteaded on Oak Creek. I was raised in Phoenix, went to engineering school at ASU, and embarked on a career which took me all over America. Returning to Arizona I have lived in Cave Creek for 20 years. I am a horseman, cowboy mounted shooter, and have camped and hiked all over Arizona since childhood Boy Scouts.
The past two Councils have put Cave Creek on the road to preserving our unique environment and eclectic culture while addressing truly critical water and fire problems. I want to extend that type of performance to every aspect of local government and complete the unfinished work.
Some of the accomplishments of the Town Councils during my 3 years are:
- Extraordinary Fire and Emergency service with NO NEW TAXES and saving fees for Rural Metro customers.
- A General Plan approved by a landslide after previous failures
- A reliable water system with plans for Phoenix back up
- Cleaner water (it was always safe)
- Critical wastewater equipment maintenance and upgrades underway
- Town Manager appraisals and routine performance evaluation to objectives and positive behavior standards
- Stopped subsidies to outside communities and developers with more underway
- Cross subsidies and inefficiencies highlighted in Utility accounting rather than concealed
- Budgets and Accounting now separate ongoing from one time cash outlays (for those familiar with private accounting, this keeps capex separate from routine expenses)
Everyone running for office in Cave Creek is motivated, high character and selfless, but there are differences in expertise, education, and the ability to lead. I hope every voter compares each candidate’s expertise and record of achievement. I think you will find my record is the right one to represent and guide the Town for the next two years.
