CAREFREE – Dear family friends found the Heritage at Carefree Retirement Living for Billie Cooper. They checked out other facilities but it was owner Donna Holbura and her family who won them over.
“I like that it’s taken care of,” Cooper, 91, offered. “They have all types of services. I can exercise two times a week. I listen to live music. They come and get me if I’m not down there on time. If I need it, they get it for me.”
The Heritage serves three full meals each day in the grand dining room. “I get up early so I can get what I want first,” she said. “The cooks are always willing to fix you something different if you can’t eat something.” Of course, each residence, whether studio, one- or two-bedroom or suite, has its own microwave, stovetop and fridge, so residents can prepare their own meals if they so desire.
Cooper appreciates the doctor on call and the fact the Heritage brings in a doctor each month. “They weigh you and take blood pressure,” she explained. “Also, they have a cleaning staff for you and they do your laundry. They bring it back and put it away or hang it up.”
“I would recommend the Heritage,” Cooper said. “The residents are warm and welcoming. They’ve been very good to me. They even take people out for shopping or lunch in the Sprinter van!”
The Heritage at Carefree caters to all types of retirees – independent, assistance required and memory/Alzheimer and nursing services needed. Floor plans include studios, one- and two-bedrooms and suites. The hallways are wide, which is ideal (and appreciated) if two walkers or wheelchairs need to pass in opposite directions.
