Trade Deficits Matter.
Countless companies in our state have laid off American workers and shifted their jobs to other countries. Americans worry the economy is permanently shedding workers and reducing wages. Congress has passed trade agreements that have only made this problem worse. The establishment continues to tells us that it’s all for the best, but decades of data shows otherwise. We voters can no longer be fooled.
Our 41 years of trade deficits have hollowed out our manufacturing and agricultural industries. Since the year 2000, the US has lost 28% of its manufacturing employment.
Trade deficits matter. Too many policymakers and their economic advisers have viewed trade deficits as harmless. The reality is just the opposite. Our enormous trade deficit has dragged down our economic growth, gutted our middle class, increased inequality, and laid waste to cities and towns in our state.
Congress needs to establish a national goal to eliminate the trade deficit to create good paying jobs and widespread prosperity in America. We need to support H Cong Res 37.
