Tony Bennett will be performing August 7th, at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix. The award-winning singer will be appearing with Antonia Bennett, his daughter, who is scheduled to open the show.
Antonia Bennett, who was educated at the Berklee College of Music, was trained in the traditions of pop and jazz. She has a developed artistic background, after having studied both acting and music in college.
Tony Bennett’s Decade Spanning Career
Tony Bennett, who will turn 92 in August, has been performing professionally for longer than 60 years, and has received 20 Grammys. He has produced many hits over his career, one of the most notable examples being “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”. After experiencing a career peak in the 1950’s, Bennett’s music underwent a popular revival in 1980s and 1990s.
Throughout his career, Bennett has received numerous awards, recognizing his efforts both on and off the stage. In 2006, for example, he received the prestigious United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Humanitarian Award. The program, which was designed after WW2, seeks to aid refugees in their efforts to reintegrate into society. The agency has received two Nobel Peace Prizes.
Bennett’s Philanthropic History
Bennett also has a storied history of participating in the Civil Rights Movement. He has walked in several marches and has been honorably included in the International Civil Rights Walk Of Fame. During the now famous Selma Marches, Bennett participated alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
He is a strong advocate of strengthening the art programs in public schools nationwide. Throughout the years, he has been a driving force behind fundraising for the American Cancer Society
