Donald Leon Grieb 1918-2018, passed away in Houston on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the age of 99. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Leon and Lulu Grieb. He started his own Architectural firm in 1952 and was responsible for the design of a wide variety of civic buildings, churches, schools and homes in the Milwaukee area. He is best known as the architect of the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory (Domes), which were completed in 1959.
He graduated from the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor degree in Architecture in 1939. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Master’s Degree in Architecture in 1942, and won the American Academy in Rome Award in Architecture in 1941. He later served honorably for his country in WWII as a navigator in the Army Air Corps, Squadron 531 on “Male Call”.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his two children, daughter Linn Grieb Wright and her spouse Don Wright, son, Donald Grieb, Jr., and his spouse Diane Grieb, two grandchildren, Gavin and Gina Marie Grieb, sister, Audrey Follmer, and many nieces and nephews.
