Two events are upcoming this month to raise funds for Desert Foothills Library. Fowl Play, an exhibition featuring avian-inspired art kicks off with a reception at Adelante Gallery, Saturday, March 10, 5-7pm. The exhibit features bird related works by many local artists and runs through March 18, with 25 percent of all sales going to the library. Adelante Gallery is located in Spanish Village, 7212 East Ho Hum Road, Carefree.
Later in the month a Block Party will be held at the Library. Due to renovations at the Desert Foothills Library what was the annual gala has a new twist. The festivities will take place Sunday, March 25, 1-4pm. Entertainment includes: Wild at Heart Raptor Center, classic cars on exhibit, karate, magicians, and music by Country Music Association artist Chad Bramlet.
Local authors Carly Kade the award-winning equestrian author of “In the Reins” and “Cowboy Away”; teacher, coach, and creator of The Mindful Meditation, Paulette Bodeman author of “The Breakaway Girl”; and award-winning actress, model, and speaker Clarissa Burt, the co-author of “Italian Gluten-Free Gastronomy; will have their books on hand and be available for signings.
You can also take part in creating a Community Art Mural, in association with Sonoran Arts League. Food trucks, including Grilled Addiction, Noodles a GoGo and Wandering Donkey will be tempting taste buds. There will be a Champagne and Wine Draw, a live auction, and much more.
One of the highlighted auction items lets you have your own private concert. Students from the Phoenix Conservatory of Music’s nationally award winning college prep program will perform live music to make any gathering a special event to remember.
Tickets are available online at Eventbrite.com or at the Library, 38443 North Schoolhouse Road, Cave Creek. Cost is only $125 per person, with $90 being tax deductible. Tables of 10 are also available. The Desert Foothills Library is a nonprofit community funded library.
The library is currently in a planned five year expansion. Part of that work included the recent addition of 52 additional parking spaces. Renovations are ongoing at the library to expand the facility. Due to this expansion, the main portion of the library will be closed March 14 and 15. Events and classes scheduled for those days will still take place in an unaffected part of building. The Library will also be closed the day of the Block Party.
Desert Foothills Library is not just about books. In addition to a wonderful collection for lending and reference, and a fantastic used book store, the library offers a broad range of classes, support groups and opportunities to socialize with others who share the same interest. There are upcoming classes on money matters, computer classes, driver safety, writing and much more. For more information, dfla.org.
