8-17-27 to 1-26-18
Catherine passed away peacefully at age 90 on Friday January 26, 2018 in Cave Creek, AZ.
Catherine was born 8-17-27 in Morris, IL. She resided there for most of her life. She did live in Arizona for approximately 21 years of her life (collectively).
At age 31 she left Illinois and she and her only child (Mary Holly Arredondo) moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1972 she and her daughter returned to Illinois. During the time that she resided in Arizona, Catherine obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Arizona State University.
Upon returning to Illinois she worked for the Department of Corrections. She worked as a social worker at the Joliet Juvenile Correctional Center, Joliet State Prison and Dwight Women’s Prison.
She was an avid reader and possessed an abundant amount of knowledge in every facet of life from history to politics. Everyone that knew her always welcomed her stimulating conversation on many different levels, and at times questioned her “dry” sense of humor.
She loved animals and had great compassion for those animals in need. She had a compassion for the organizations which were dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals.
She was the daughter of Malichi A. Cosgrove and Catherine Kenny both of whom proceeded her in death. In addition, she was the sister of Maxine Cosgrove Burroughs and Mary Jane Cosgrove Anders, which proceeded her in death also. Also proceeding her in death was her niece, Maxine Lynn Anders Shenaut.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Holly Arredondo Griffiths, Cave Creek AZ, Granddaughter Hillary McCarey, Son-in law Marc McCarey and great grandchildren, Blake, Morgan and Chase McCarey of Tinley Park, IL. She is also survived by her niece Linda Hammen of Mazon, IL and nephew Tom Anders of Morris, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA or your local area entity which is dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals.
A celebration of life will take place, date and time to be determined.
