Cactus Shadows High School, located in the Cave Creek Unified School District, welcomed a local eatery into their Culinary Classroom.
Brooke Butler, owner of Big Earls Greasy Eats and Cactus Shadows Alumna (’08), read a CCUSD post on Instagram regarding Cactus Shadows new culinary class. She commented “This is SO COOL! If you want Big Earls kitchen manager to come in & teach them something, let us know! I wish we had this when I graduated in 2008!” CSHS Principal, Dr. Steve Bebee accepted her offer.
This past week, the students learned some knife skills from Andrew Martin, Big Earls Kitchen Manager. Brooke said, “I am so glad we could give a few hours and help out. Andrew even taught me a thing or two.” She also let Dr. Bebee know that the students were welcome to come to Big Earls to see how a kitchen is run. Big Earls also employs five CSHS students.
Dr. Bebee said, “We are so appreciative when we have alum come back and give back to our students. Having Brooke, a local successful business owner, bring her real world experiences into the CTE culinary classroom helps our students learn and appreciate what they are learning. Brook’s experiences bring relevance to what is being taught. When that business owner is a former Falcon herself, that just makes the experience even more special.”
Thank you Brooke, Andrew and Big Earls for giving back to the students of Cactus Shadows High School – you truly are a FOREVER FALCON!
