Hurricane Harvey did not just leave Houston households and businesses in trouble. It also left its hospitals and their patients with an abundance of complications.
In response to the devastation Harvey created for these facilities and their staff, thirty-four clinical professionals from Banner Health locations all across Arizona have volunteered their help. On Monday, they are headed for MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Some of MD Anderson Cancer Center operations were shut down due to flooding and had to delay important services to patients. However, the hospital was never evacuated and resumed care for patients both during the hurricane and the intense flooding that followed.
Because of the relationship the two hospitals built from collaborating in 2011 to open the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, AZ, it only seemed appropriate for the Banner Health doctors and nurses to come to their assistance during a time of need.
Many of the staff at the medical facility in Houston are from affected areas and are unable to go to work. That is where the Banner Health medical professionals come in. They will provide support toward keeping the hospital in operation and will give assistance in every way they can while members of the Houston staff deal with one of the worst tragedies of their lives.
