WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump announced his intention to repeal former President Obama’s unconstitutional Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration program with a six-month delay for implementation. Congressman Andy Biggs released the following statement:
“President Obama’s frequent use of executive orders to go around Congress was arguably the most unconstitutional in American history. His creation and implementation of the DACA program was exhibit A of his affinity for circumventing constitutional and legislative solutions. The rule of law must be followed regardless of the circumstance, and former President Obama betrayed his solemn oath of office by unilaterally instituting DACA.
“There is a serious discussion to be had about immigration reform in America. However, it must only come when we have fulfilled our promises to secure the border and enforce all current immigration laws.
“I applaud President Trump for repealing the unconstitutional executive order that created DACA and appropriately returning the debate to Congress. I hope that Congress will work to secure our borders, fully enforce the immigration laws we have on the books, and eliminate the incentives for future illegal immigration.”
