FAIRFAX, VA—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning issued the following statement urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to proceed with his plan to hold a vote repealing most of Obamacare via budget reconciliation:
“After almost a decade of campaigning against Obamacare, it would be legislative malfeasance not to finally have a vote in the Senate putting every Senator on the record for where they stand. It is inexcusable for any Senator who voted to send language to then-President Obama in 2015 when they knew it would be vetoed to vote against the same language today when it would be signed. Obamacare was designed to fail. This is fully the responsibility of the former President and the Democrats who enacted it. Now it’s time for the Republican majority in both houses to wipe this stain out of the U.S. law books so that they can direct their attention to allowing free market solutions that will finally drive premium costs down and increase availability.
“While Republican Senators like Shelley Moore Capito and Lisa Murkowski have indicated that they will no longer support repeal, their constituents who voted them into office at least partially due to the repeal promise deserve a vote that has real consequences. It is up to the people of Alaska and West Virginia to let these Senators know exactly how they feel about the need to repeal Obamacare to give the U.S. health care system the chance to heal.”
