CAREFREE – There’s an oasis in the desert, and it’s called Bartlett Lake. It was 1984 when the Church brothers – Bryan and Eric – discovered the hidden gem of a lake in the Tonto National Forest. In 1995, the Bartlett Lake Marina was up and running and open for business, courtesy of the brothers’ vision. Despite it being the second largest lake in the area, Lake Pleasant being first, some folks haven’t made the scenic trek for sun and fun.
There are countless activities in which to partake, even if you don’t own a boat. If you wish you did, consider joining the boat club. It’s a one-year commitment and an affordable way to have access to one of 17 ski and/or pontoon boats. (No sailing experience? No worries! The folks at the marina offer training.) You can also rent kayaks and standup paddleboards, one of the fastest growing water activities.
If you forget your sunscreen or want a keepsake from your lake experience, there’s a general store at the marina. “We stock everything you need,” Bryan assured. “We have beer and soda, life jackets, water toys, hats, sunglasses, Bartlett Lake logo merchandise.”
The newest addition to the marina is the Last Stop Restaurant. (Be sure to check out the record catfish caught by “Flathead Ed” in 2013 by the hostess station.) Diners may find Marie, Eric’s wife, taking orders. It is truly a family affair at Bartlett Lake Marina. The menu is limited, but the food is fresh,
filling and fantastic. The angus burgers are most popular, but there are also salads, chicken sandwiches, many sides (French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings…), ice cream, hot cocoa and a full bar. Of course, the Last Stop also caters to little ones with a kids’ menu.
Remember, there’s no cost to go to Bartlett Lake Marina (20808 E. Bartlett Dam Rd), so take the drive, marvel at the view and enjoy lunch on the water. Phone 602-316-3378 or 480-221-0503 for information or see bartlettlake.com.
