Governor Doug Ducey’s reforms to Medicaid were officially granted approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

The newly approved program, AHCCCS CARE, seeks to modernize and improve the existing Medicaid system by promoting personal responsibility, providing tools to empower Arizonans to manage their own health, and preparing adults to transition out of Medicaid and into private coverage.

In our new, first-in-the-nation program, eligible members will be able to make contributions to an account (similar to a Health Savings Account) to be used for services not currently covered by Medicaid, including dental, vision, weight loss and more.

The program expands Arizonans’ access to quality services that currently are not covered under Medicaid while empowering patients to utilize those health care options which best meet their specific health needs.

AHCCCS CARE also:

Engages the business and philanthropic communities,

Promotes and incentivizes healthy behaviors,

Encourages increased health literacy,

Holds members accountable for nonpayment,

And connects members to employment opportunities.

Our state is now positioned to lead the nation in the trailblazing spirit we’re known for: enhancing Arizonans’ health services, holding government accountable to hardworking taxpayers, and taking Medicaid into the 21st century.
